About this list
Budapest is a city where players come for title norms, and FIDE’s tournament reports show it: First Saturday plays monthly round robins in GM, IM and rating-limited sections, and the SixDays, One Week and Vezérképző series do the same over shorter or longer spans. Beside them run open series such as the Rákosmenti Open, the Premium Chess Tournament and the summer and winter tournaments at the Testnevelési Egyetem, the sports university, the Terézváros Open at the Eötvös 10 cultural house, and memorials to Hungarian masters such as Faragó Iván, Szabó László, Kállai Gábor and Forintos Győző.
The national federation holds its own championships in the capital, from the national finals to the junior and para chess titles, and the Budapest federation runs the adult and youth team championships through the season. For amateurs the calendar adds community rapids such as the Gazdagrét Kupa, the BEFS Universitas Kupa for university players, the monthly tournaments at the A Grund bar and the Grund64 amateur championship.
