Budapest chess clubs and the halls they play in 32

Club chess in Budapest is team chess. The Budapest Chess Federation, the Budapesti Sakkszövetség, runs a team championship in several adult divisions alongside a youth championship, and every club names a playing hall in its entry for the season. A few clubs play at home, as MTK does at its sports ground on Kerepesi út and Grund64 in its own chess room in Józsefváros. Most borrow a room: a lecture block on the ELTE campus at Lágymányos, a conference hall in Graphisoft Park, the Infopark, secondary schools in Újpest and Csepel, community houses in Angyalföld and Ferencváros, or the Hungarian Chess Federation’s building on Falk Miksa utca, where several teams play their home matches.

Beyond the city boundary the list follows the clubs of the Pest County Chess Federation’s league into the agglomeration: Vác, Göd and Dunakeszi to the north, Érd, Törökbálint and Dunaharaszti to the south, whose teams meet in culture houses and school buildings. Many league clubs also train on a weekday evening; the entries give those hours wherever a club page prints them.

In the outer districts the halls are local institutions: the Kondor Béla community house in Pestszentlőrinc, the sports ground on Táncsics Mihály utca in Pestszentimre, the REAC sports ground in Rákospalota, a school on Bánya utca in Kőbánya, and the Magyar Sport Háza in Zugló, where the Siketek Sport Klubja, the deaf sports club, fields its team. Some clubs belong to an institution rather than to a district: BEAC and Barcza Gedeon train on the university campus at Lágymányos, the Semmelweis University chess section invites the university’s staff and students to its chess salon on Üllői út, and the workplace sports club of a ministry holds a weekly Tuesday session on Ajtósi Dürer sor. Halls can change between seasons: for 2026/27 the MTK teams moved from Taxi utca to the club’s sports ground on Kerepesi út, and the Sakklovagok moved from Honvéd utca to the Pacsi cultural centre in Ferencváros.
