Tournaments for children and teenagers 7

Children in Budapest usually meet competitive chess through school. The Diákolimpia, the school olympiad, holds district rounds in age groups each winter, and the Budapest youth team championship sends club teams to the Klauzál Ház in Budafok for its autumn rounds. The Junior Hungarian Championships decide the under-20 titles, for open and girls’ sections.

Club and community events open the door wider. The Lauder Sakkfesztivál at the Lauder Javne school plays in birth-year groups and adds a side event for parents and trainers; the Gazdagrét Kupa has a separate children’s group; the Ten Cities programme holds beginner and intermediate children’s tournaments at the Testnevelési Egyetem; and the A Grund tournaments of the Sakklovagok include editions for children.
