About this list

Each place here says in so many words that beginners or amateurs are welcome. For a first game without a club, the KnightFall Chess Club’s Sunday coffeehouse meetups in Újlak are built around casual games, and the chess section of the NGM Sport Club on Ajtósi Dürer sor starts each Tuesday with a short lesson and lets a newcomer try the first session without joining. The Sakkmatyi chess school takes beginners, children above all.

Several tournaments keep a door open for newcomers: the Grund64 Wednesday-evening schnell and the Grund64 amateur championship are for amateur players, the Gazdagrét Kupa takes amateur as well as rated players, in an adult and a children’s group, and the Ten Cities programme plays beginner and intermediate children’s tournaments. Outside the city, the Törökbálint club runs sessions for children and adults and welcomes beginners.
